Regarding the establishment of this temple, it is said that King Daksh had once performed a yagya. Lord Shankar was not called in this yagya. But Parvati still insisted and came to see her father’s yagya. When she reached there, she and her husband Mahadev were insulted. She could not tolerate this and sacrificed her life by jumping into the sacrificial altar. Later, Lord Parvati took the body to many places. During this time, nine body parts of the mother fell at different places. Mother’s body part had fallen in Ghatampur also. Which is known as Mother Kushmanda.

His cow used to come near his mother’s pindi while grazing and milk would automatically start coming out from her udders. Seeing this happening every day, the cowherd told this to the villagers. Later, people started worshiping Pindi here and considering the water coming out from there as Prasad of the Mother Goddess, people started consuming it.
