Sri Adi Brahmalingeswara Temple- Dharmachavadi

Sri Adi Brahmalingeswara Temple is located in a village called Dharmachavadi (also known as Moodu Palimaru) in Udupi district of Karnataka.
Lord Sri Adi Brahmalingeswara is the main deity of this temple which is believed to be more than 500 years old.Idols of Goddess Parvati and Lord Siddhi Vinayaka Swamy have also been consecrated here.

History

The temple is built by a feudatory king of Vijayanagar Empire. According to history, the king had given a wrong verdict while declaring judgment, for which the defendant was punished despite not committing any mistake. The king realised his mistake and felt very depressed by his deed. The king then constructed the temple to atone for his misjudment. The temple is constructed in the jurisdiction of judgement place, the place was named as ‘Dharma Chavadi’. Even now the place is called by the name “Dharma Chavadi” Over a period of years, the temple was handed over to Palimar Mutt, one among the Ashta Mutt’s of Udupi. Down the years, Palimar Mutt completed the renovation work. The temple administration is taken care by Palimar Mutt.

Speciality of Temple

Since Lord Shiva is the presiding deity of the temple, festivals like Navaratri, Shivaratri and Sankranti are celebrated with pomp and gaiety. While the main deity has been consecrated in the sanctum sanctorum, beautiful Idols of Sri Parvati Devi and Lord Ganapati have been installed in the courtyard around. The courtyard houses Homakunda, a Sacred well, Serpent Gods and a Tulasi Brindavana.
