Kanha played the flute in such a way that the stone melted and his footprints were formed.
Charan Temple is situated near the famous Nahargarh Fort in the beautiful Aravalli hills, north of Jaipur. Here the feet of Lord Shri Krishna are worshipped. According to mythological belief, once in Dwapar era, Lord Krishna was going from Mathura to Dwarka with Nand Baba. During his journey he stayed in the Ambika forest. Ambika Forest was actually the forest area around present-day Amer at that time. There were a large number of Kadamba trees here. During his stay here, a python caught hold of Nand Baba. When Krishna ji freed Nand Baba from the python, the python came back in its real form.
The python was actually Sudarshan, the son of Indra and he was cursed by the sages to become a python because of insulting him. After this incident, Krishna played the flute in his familiar special posture on a hill here. Even the stones melted due to the sweet tune of the flute. The mark of his right foot was made on the rock here. The hoofs of the cow standing near him were also made here.
Later in the 15th century, King Mansingh of Amer had a dream of seeing the feet of Krishna here. When Mansingh searched for it, these symbols were seen on the hill. He built a grand temple here. Even today, Lord Krishna and the hoof of his favorite cow are worshiped in the temple. Later the king also built a fort at some distance from the temple which is today known as Nahargarh.
