Share

Chhatarpur Temple (officially: Sri Aadya Katyayani Shakti Peetham) is located in the downtown area of Chhatarpur, Delhi, India. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Katyayani. The entire complex of the temple is spread over a wide area of 70 acres. It is located in Chhatarpur, on the south-western outskirts of New Delhi and just 4 km (2.5 mi) from the Qutub Minar on the Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road.

The temple was established in 1974 by Baba Sant Nagpal Ji, who died in 1998. His Samadhi shrine is located in the premises of the Shiva-Gauri Nageshwara temple within the temple complex.

Before Akshardham Temple was built in Delhi in 2005, this temple was considered to be the second largest temple in India and the third largest in the world.  The temple is built entirely of marble and has jaali (pierced stone or latticed screen) work on all its facades. It can be classified in the Weser style of architecture.

The surroundings are an important biodiversity area within the Northern Aravalli Leopard Wildlife Corridor extending from Sariska Tiger Reserve to Delhi. Historical places around the sanctuary are Badkhal Lake (6 km northeast), the ancient 10th century Surajkund Reservoir and Anangpur Dam, Damdama Lake, Tughlakabad Fort and Adilabad ruins (both in Delhi). It is located in the seasonal springs in the Pali-Dhuj-Kot villages of Faridabad, [7] the sacred Mangar Bani and the Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary. Several dozen lakes have formed in abandoned opencast mines in the forested hilly area of the Delhi Ridge.

Complex

The entire temple complex spread over 60 acres (24.3 ha) has more than 20 small and large temples divided into three different complexes. The main deity in the temple is Goddess Katyayani, who is a part of the Navadurga pantheon, nine forms of the Hindu goddess Durga or Shakti, who are worshiped during Navratri celebrations.

A side shrine within the main temple houses the shrine of Goddess Katyayani (Durga), which is open only during the bi-annual Navratri season, when thousands of people flock to the complex for darshan. An adjacent room is designed as a living room with a table and chairs made of silver, and the other is treated as a bedroom, where a bed, dressing table and table are made of silver. Is. The temple opens into a large satsang or prayer hall, Where religious sermons and bhajans (religious songs) are held. There is an old tree at the entrance of the main temple, where devotees tie sacred threads to fulfill their wishes. [8]Another temple of Goddess Durga is open to devotees from morning till evening, it is situated above the temples dedicated to Radha Krishna and Lord Ganesha.

Apart from this the complex also has other temples dedicated to Lord Rama, Lord Ganesha and Lord Shiva. The temples are built in both South and North Indian architectural styles.
