Patna’s ‘Patan Devi’ temple is also included among the Shakti Peethas of the country. By the way, there are two temples of Patan Devi in Patna, Bihar. Chhoti Patan Devi and Badi Patan Devi. According to legends, Sati’s body was dismembered into 51 pieces during Shiva’s Tandava. Shaktipeeths were built wherever these organs fell.

She is also called Bhagwati Patneshwari. The idols of Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswati adorned with gold ornaments are present in the temple premises. Chhoti Patan Devi is revered as the village goddess and every Hindu family comes here after auspicious work. There is a big pit behind this temple, which is called Patandevi Khanda. According to belief, the idols had descended from this place.

Here worship is done according to Vedic and Tantric methods. Vedic puja is public, whereas Tantric puja lasts for a few minutes. On this occasion, as per the law, the door of Bhagwati remains closed. According to local beliefs, this temple is famous for the accomplishment of Kalik Mantra.

Temple visiting timings: The temple remains open for darshan throughout the day.

Mahanisha puja is done here during Navratri and after the midnight puja, as soon as the doors are opened, the darshan of the goddess is considered miraculous after the aarti is performed at 2.30 pm. A fair is held here on Mahashtami and Navami of Navratri.
