If you want to visit the ancient and miraculous temple of Shanidev in Ahilya Nagri, then come to Juni Indore. It is believed that Shani Dev himself had visited this temple. This temple has not been constructed by any person or organization, rather it is self-built.
According to legends, about 300 years ago, there was a 20 feet high mound at the site of the temple, where Pandit Gopaldas Tiwari, the ancestor of the present priest, had stayed. It is said that one night Shanidev appeared to Gopaldas in his dream. Gopaldas was blind and after this dream he started seeing. As per the orders received in the dream, Gopaldas got the mound excavated and an idol of Shanidev emerged from it. This statue is installed here today.
It is said that the idol of Shanidev was earlier in place of the idol of Lord Rama installed in the present temple. There is a statue of Ram with a moustache, which is considered quite rare. The temple of Shanidev has become the center of ancient faith of the devotees.
According to belief, Shani Dev is happy with music. For this reason, every year a festival is celebrated in this temple on Shani Jayanti. During this festival, invitations are sent to famous musicians of the country.
Temple visiting timings: 5.00 am to 12.00 midnight
Maha Aarti takes place here every night at 8 pm. Bhajan evening is organized here every Saturday from 8 to 12 noon.
