Orchha’s relation with Ayodhya
One day Orchha king Madhukarshah Bundela asked his wife Ganeshkunwar Raje to go to Vrindavan with the intention of worshiping Krishna. But Rani was a devotee of Ram. He refused to go to Vrindavan. In anger, the king said to her that if you are such a devotee of Ram then go and bring your Ram to Orchha. After reaching Ayodhya, the queen started her meditation by building her hut near Lakshman Fort on the banks of river Saryu. During these days, Saint Shiromani Tulsidas was also meditating in Ayodhya. After receiving blessings from the saint, the queen’s worship became stronger and stronger. But the queen did not see Ramraja for many months. Ultimately, in despair, she jumped into the current of Saryu to sacrifice her life. It was here in the deep depths of the water that he saw Ramraja. The queen told him her intention. Ramraja accepted to go to Orchha
But he placed three conditions – first, this journey would be on foot, second – the journey would take place only in Pushpa Nakshatra, third – the idol of Ramraja would not rise again from the place where it was kept. The queen sent a message to the king that she was coming to Orchha with Ramraja. King Madhukarshah Bundela built the Chaturbhuj temple at a cost of billions to house the idol of Ramraja. When the queen reached Orchha, she kept this idol in her palace. It was decided that the idol would be consecrated by placing it in the Chaturbhuj temple at an auspicious time. But this idol of Ram refused to go to Chaturbhuj. Since then Ramraj is sitting here. It is also a coincidence that on the same day when Ramraja arrived in Orchha in Samvat 1631, the writing of Ramcharit Manas was also completed. About the idol which is present in Orchha, it is said that when Ram was going for exile, he had given one of his child idol to mother Kaushalya. Mother Kaushalya used to offer Baal Bhog to him. When Ram returned to Ayodhya, Kaushalya immersed this idol in the Saryu river. This idol was found by Ganeshkunwar Raje in the middle of Saryu. Here Ram is recognized as Orchadhish. There are temples of Hanuman ji all around the Ramraja temple. Temples of Chaddari Hanuman, Bajariya Hanuman, Lanka Hanuman are all around as a protection circle. There is also a belief that the coronation of Lord Shri Ram took place in Orchha. That’s why he is worshiped here as a king.
