When it comes to friendship, the example of Lord Shri Krishna and Sudama is given first. Today we are telling you about the temple dedicated to Shri Krishna and Sudama. In this temple, along with Krishna, his best friend Sudama is worshipped.
There are two major temples in the country of Krishna-Sudama. One of these is located in Porbandar of Gujarat and the other is located about nine kilometers away from Mahidpur tehsil of Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh. The Krishna-Sudama temple located at Mahidpur is said to be the oldest. This temple is known as Narayan Dham. Now efforts are being made to recognize it as a friendly place also.
Sudama was extremely poor and he befriended Lord Krishna in the ashram of Guru Sandipani. It is said that one day Guru Mata sent Shri Krishna and Sudama to bring wood.
While returning to the ashram, it started raining heavily and Shri Krishna-Sudama stopped at one place and rested. It is believed that Narayan Dham is the same place where Shri Krishna and Sudama stayed to save themselves from the rain and Sudama ate Shri Krishna’s share of gram. The trees and plants around this temple are believed to have grown from the same bundle of wood that Krishna and Sudama had collected.
