Srimad Bhagavad Gita Chapter 6 Verse 34
Tasya, aham, nigraham, manye, vayoah, iva, sudushkaram. 34.
Hindi translation of the verse –
The mind is very fickle, stubborn and extremely strong, controlling it seems more difficult than controlling the wind.
Expressed feelings and inspiration –
Shri Arjunji said the above words to the Lord.
Here Shri Arjunji seems to be asking for the blessings of the Lord and is praying to the Lord that He may kindly draw his mind towards Himself. Shri Arjunji says that the mind is very unstable and fickle by nature, the mind is very obstinate and stubborn. The mind is also very strong and the living being loses before the power of the mind. Just as it is impossible to control the wind, similarly it is almost impossible to control the mind. The saint gives an analogy that just as it is impossible to establish samadhi of a monkey because the monkey is very fickle by nature, similarly the mind is also very fickle and it is almost impossible to steady it.
But if we remove our mind from the world and focus it on God, then its restlessness ends. Wherever the mind goes, it should be pulled from there and put back into God. The mind should be trained in such a way that it thinks about God continuously. Apart from God, nothing else came to mind. When the mind’s willful thoughts will end and it will rest in God. Once we become focused and stable, it will come under our control. How many saints have there been who have kept their mind focused throughout their lives in contemplation from the Lord’s lotus feet to the Lord’s eyes and from the Lord’s eyes to the Lord’s lotus feet?
If the mind is not focused on God then it will run towards the world. Then no one will be able to stop him. Therefore, it is very important to control the mind in the contemplation of God and in the form of God. If the mind gets entangled in the world, it will cause our downfall. If the same mind is focused on God, he will bring us salvation. Therefore, we should stop our mind from going into the world and the best way to do this is to concentrate it on God.
The more our mind starts focusing on God, the more our devotion will get stronger and our welfare will be ensured.🙏🙏🙏
