Gigai Mata Temple, Indokha, Nagaur

You will find many places of folk goddesses in Nagaur, Rajasthan. One such popular folk goddess is Gigai Mata. Mata’s temple is in Indaukha of Nagaur and devotees of all religions come here from the state and the country.

​Green tree made by sprinkling water on dry wood

According to the information, Gigai Maa was born in Indaukha in Bithu Charan dynasty in Vikram Samvat 1730 on Ashadh Shukla Panchami. His mother’s name was Sampu Kanwar and father’s name was Jogidas Charan. Indra Baisa and Sayar Mata also considered him revered. It is said that before leaving her body at the age of 102, the mother sprinkled water on the dry wood of the Shami tree and turned it into a green tree. Since then the same tree is being worshiped as the form of mother. This tree is still green even today.

Counting of cows was done

It is believed that at the time of birth, Gigai’s parents were convinced that not an ordinary girl was born in their house but an extraordinary girl, Yogamaya, had been incarnated. He had two brothers, in which the younger brother’s name was Ratan Singh. It is believed that when Gigai was seven years old, he got rid of the king’s counting for taxes and slaughter and also got the bards a special status in front of the king. Gigai Maa’s life has been full of miracles and even today people come from far and wide to pay obeisance at her temple.

Darshan Timings: Darshan in the temple opens at 6 am and closes at 9 pm.
