Sankata Devi Temple, Lakhimpur The legendary Sankata Devi temple of Kheri city is more than a thousand years old. Located in the middle of the city, this temple is the center of devotion for Goddess devotees. Sankata Devi Temple has a prominent place among the four Shakti Peethas of the city. There is a statue of Goddess Lakshmi in this temple.The city was also named Lakshmipur after his name, which was later called Lakhimpur.
History of the temple
There is a legend that this temple was established by Shri Krishna after the Mahabharata war while going to Pashupatinath on the wish of Rukmani. This is the first temple among the four Shaktipeeths established by Shri Krishna during that time. Once upon a time there used to be a huge lake around this temple which was later destroyed.The temple has been renovated from time to time by the kings of the then Maheva State. Even today this temple is under the protection of the royal family.

Being a mythological temple, its architecture is also like that of a thousand years old temples. Its huge complex is enough to accommodate the devotees. From time to time devotees come here to offer prayers. Both the festivals of Navratri are the biggest features of this temple. Apart from this, Shrimad Bhagwat is also held here once a year.
