Who performed Shraddha first, how did this tradition start?

Share

Many things have been mentioned about Shraddha in many religious texts. Even in the Anusandhan Parva of Mahabharata, Bhishma Pitamah has told many such things to Yudhishthir regarding Shraddha, which very few people know at present. It is also told in Mahabharata how the tradition of Shraddha started and then how it gradually reached the public. Today we are telling you some such interesting things related to Shraddha-

Nimi started the tradition of Shraddha

According to the Mahabharata, the first advice on Shraddha was given by the great ascetic Atri Muni to Maharishi Nimi. In this way, first Nimi started Shraddha, after that other Maharshi also started performing Shraddha. Gradually, people of all four castes started giving food to their ancestors during Shraddha. By continuously eating Shraddha food, the gods and ancestors became completely satisfied.

ancestors had suffered from indigestion

Due to continuous eating of Shraddha food, the ancestors got indigestion (indigestion of food) and due to this they started suffering. Then he went to Brahmaji and said to him – While eating the food for Shraddha, we have developed indigestion, this is causing pain to us, please do good to us.

After listening to the gods, Brahmaji said – This fire god is sitting near me, he will do good to you. Agnidev said – Gods and ancestors. From now on we will eat together during Shraddha. By staying with me your indigestion will go away. Hearing this the gods and ancestors were pleased. Therefore, in Shraddha, the first part of fire is given.

Pind should be given to the father first.

According to the Mahabharata, the Pind Daan that is offered to the ancestors after performing Havan in the fire, is not contaminated even by Brahmarakshas. Seeing Agnidev present in Shraddha, the demons run away from there. First of all, Pind should be given to the father, then to the grandfather and then to the great grandfather. This is the method of Shraddha. While giving each pind, one should concentrate and chant Gayatri Mantra and pronounce Somay Pitrimate Swaha.

Satisfy the ancestors of the clan

A menstruating woman should not spend time preparing food for Shraddha. While offering tarpan, the names of father, grandfather etc. should be pronounced clearly. On reaching the banks of a river, one must offer Pind Daan and Tarpan to the ancestors. First, after satisfying the ancestors of your family with water, you should offer Jalanjali to your friends and relatives. While crossing the river in a cart harnessed by spotted bulls, one should offer offerings to the ancestors with the tails of the bulls because the ancestors desire such offerings.

Shraddha must be performed on Amavasya

Those crossing the river by boat should also offer offerings to their ancestors. Those who know the importance of Tarpan, they definitely offer water to their ancestors with concentration while sitting in the boat. When half of the month passes in Krishna Paksha, Shraddha must be performed on that day i.e. on Amavasya Tithi.

That’s why ancestors should be kept happy

By devotion to ancestors, man gets affirmation, age, semen and wealth. Brahmaji, Pulastya, Vashishtha, Pulah, Angira, Kratu and Maharishi Kashyap- these seven sages are considered great Yogeshwar and ancestors. Dead people get relief from the suffering of ghosts by receiving Pind Daan from their descendants.

This is how Pind Daan should be done

According to Mahabharata, out of the three Pindas prescribed in Shraddha, the first one should be put in water. The second Pinda should be fed to the wife of the Shraddha performer and the third Pinda should be left in the fire, this is the rule of Shraddha. One who follows this, his ancestors always remain happy and satisfied and the donation given by him is inexhaustible.

1👉The first body that goes under water satisfies the moon and the moon itself satisfies the gods and ancestors.

2👉 Similarly, the second pind that the wife eats with the permission of her gurus, the ancestors are pleased and grant a son to the man who wishes to have a son.

3👉 The third mass is thrown into the fire, after being satisfied with it, the ancestors fulfill all the wishes of the person.
