Pandupol Hanuman Ji Mandir

Share

Pandupol- where mace-wielding Bhima had made a door in the mountain with the blow of his mace.

Pandupol is believed to belong to the epic period of Mahabharata. The Pandavas are believed to have spent some years of their lives in Pandupol during their exile. According to another legend, this Pandupol was the same place where Lord Hanuman defeated Bhima and curbed his pride. Pandupol Hanuman Temple is one of the wonderful places in Alwar to visit for pilgrims as well as nature and animal lovers.
It is said that when the Pandava sons had completed their twelve years of exile, they came here to complete one year of exile. At that time, they saw two hills connected to each other on the way, which was blocking their further path. Then Mother Kunti Bhima asked his sons to break the hill and make a path. On hearing his mother’s order, the mighty Bhima gave a heavy blow with his mace. Due to which the hills were shattered and a path was made.

Seeing this courageous act of Bhima, his mother and brother started praising him which created arrogance in Bhima’s mind. To break this arrogance of Bhima, Hanumanji made a plan and lay down in the form of an old monkey in the path of the advancing Pandavas.

When the Pandavas saw that an old monkey was resting on the path through which they had to pass, they requested him to leave the path and go somewhere else to rest. Hearing the request of the Pandavas, Hanumanji (who was present in the form of an old monkey) said that due to his old age he could not move, so the Pandavas should leave through some other route.

Bhima, intoxicated with his ego, did not like this statement of Hanumanji and started challenging Hanumanji. Hearing Bheem’s challenge, Hanumanji said in a very polite manner that he should remove his tail and leave, but Bheem could not even move his tail away and started regretting his arrogance and also started apologizing to Hanumanji.

When Bhima apologized, Hanumanji came in his true form and said – You are not only a brave man but you are also very strong, but this kind of arrogance does not suit the brave men. After this, Hanumanji left Bhima after giving him the boon of becoming Mahabali, but the place where he lay is still revered as his famous abode.

Every Tuesday and Saturday, a fair of devotees is organized in this temple to have darshan of this wonderful form of Hanumanji. At some distance from here, there is also a hill which Bhima had made a path by breaking it with his mace. This hill is known as Bhima Pahadi. A continuous stream of water flows from this hill, which people come from far and wide to see.
