Shri Ghanteshwar Mahadev Mandir Delhi
Shri Ghanteshwar Mahadev Mandir
Also known for its mythological name, ‘Vishveshwar Mahadev’, the Ghanteshwar Mandir of Katara Neel is one of the oldest Aryavrata temples. Saubhare Samhita and Padam Puran have also spoken about its mythological name. This temple is found in Katra Neel, which was originally known as Vidyapuri.
Ghanteshwar Mandir is considered highly sacred, and its entrance is made up of white marble on which hang two large bells.
The history and position of Shree Ghanteshwar Mahadev Shivalaya Temple in Katra Neel, Old Delhi can traced back to the time of Mahabharat according to the historian named Mr. Maheshwar Dayal in his book- “1857 Ki Dilli”.
Many even till this date believe strongly that Pandavs worshipped here when they ruled Indraprastha.
However, Delhi was handicapped in Mughal and British times and the history of the temple is in dark abyss.
It was later restored by Rai Saheb Mehtab Bahadur Kapoor who also inaugurated the Pramukh Ghanta (Bell) of the temple.
