Here in UP, King Indra worships Lord Shiva daily… his body sitting in the form of a tree! Know the history of the temple

Sunaseer Nath Dham of Shahjahanpur, where Lord Shiva still resides in the underworld. It is believed that even today King Indra comes to this temple of Treta Yuga daily to worship Lord Shiva.

Although there are many temples of Lord Shiva in Shiva city Shahjahanpur, but Sunaseer Nath Dham is situated in a large area here. Devotees have deep faith here. It is believed that King Indra himself comes here every day first of all to worship Lord Shiva.

Giving information, Mahant of Sunaseer Nath Temple said that this centuries old Shiva temple established on the banks of river Gomti is said to be of Tretayuga. Here Lord Shiva is still present in the underworld and the wishes of the Shiva devotees who come and worship here are fulfilled.

Historical importance of the temple

Mahant told that during Tretayuga, King Indra had cheated the wife of Gautam Rishi. After which Sage Gautam cursed Indra. Due to the curse, Indra’s entire body was deformed. To repent for his mistake, King Indra sat here and performed penance by taking water samadhi. And appealed to Lord Shiva to liberate him from his sins. After the appeal of King Indra, Lord Shiva appeared here in the water pond and freed King Indra from his mutilated body. Sunaseer means freed from the body. Mahant Ramesh Giri told that the soul of King Indra is still ruling and his body is present here in the form of a Peepal tree.

King Indra worships here every day

Mahant told that even today King Indra comes to this temple to worship Lord Shiva. He is the first one to worship here. Before dawn, milk and fruits are offered to the sacred Shivalinga of Lord Shiva. Mahant Ramesh Giri told that here after midnight there is noise of strong wind. But the leaves of the trees do not move. People believe that during this time Indra comes here to worship.
