There is a 150 year old ancient temple of Lord Shiva in the main market located in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh. This temple is famous by the name of Hatkeshwar Mahadev. Thousands of devotees come to this temple to have darshan and pray for the fulfillment of their wishes. It is believed that any devotee who has darshan of Lord Shiva here, his every wish is fulfilled.

Regarding the religious beliefs related to the temple, Pandit Tushar Dave told that according to Lingashtakam Stotra, Mahakal has been described as the king of the mortal world. In the same underworld, there is the place of Lord Hatkeshwar Mahadev in the form of a deity. According to ancient religious texts, a river named Hatak flows in the underworld. From which this divine Shivalinga had originated.
