Shajapur. Like Omkareshwar Jyotirling, the famous Shivling is also in Shajapur. It is also worshiped like Jyotirlinga. It is in Dhanmondi area at Shajapur district headquarters. By visiting and worshiping here, one gets the same virtuous results as Omkareshwar. During Shravan, there is a crowd of devotees here from morning till night for darshan and worship. This is also considered as Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga, there is an interesting story behind it.

The priest of the temple told that many of his generations have been doing worship and service in the temple. His ancestors had given information about the legend related to the temple. According to this, in ancient times there was a Shiva devotee in Shajapur (ancient name Khakharakhedi). Those Shiva devotees used to reach Omkareshwar near Indore every day on horseback. Even after seeing Mahadev every day, the devotee used to consume food and water. This sequence continued for many years, but due to old age he became unable to go. Due to his disability, the Shiva devotee appealed to Mahadev that in his old age, if he is not able to come to Omkareshwar for darshan, then how will he be able to worship Mahadev.

When the devotee of Shiva appealed to Mahadev, Mahadev listened to his request. Bholeshankar appeared to the devotee in his dream. Also said to take bath in the river (ancient name Chandrabhaga river, present name Chilar river) in the morning and to walk as far as you can, establish Shivalinga there. After receiving God’s order in his dream, the devotee of Shiva reached the river in Brahma Muhurta and took bath. As soon as he took a dip in the water, Shivalinga appeared in his hand. Taking this Shivalinga in his hand, the Shiva devotee took it to some distance and installed it with proper rituals. Since then Omkareshwar Mahadev was established here.

The Shivalinga enshrined in the temple of Omkareshwar Mahadev located in Dhanmondi area looks completely similar to the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga. Just like the condition there, the same condition exists for Shivalinga here. Those who have visited both the places themselves testify to this.

The priest here tells a story. In ancient times, a Shiva devotee lived in Shajapur. He used to go every Monday on horseback to visit Omkareshwar. There were no means of transport in those days. Even after many years the rule was not broken. Even in old age he did not allow the rules to be broken, but after some time he became ill and the rules started being broken. He could not go to Omkareshwar. Because of this he started feeling very sad. He started thinking about Lord Omkareshwar day and night and started praying. One day Lord Omkareshwar came in a dream and said that I will be seen after taking bath in the river in the morning and whatever stone comes to hand from the river, take it out and install it at the place where the steps stop. The devotee did the same the next day. , The devotee started bathing in the Chillar river and then picked up the stone and came out with it and stopped after walking a short distance. After this, Omkareshwar Shivalinga was established here on the banks of Chilar river. Since then people also consider it as Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga.
