Gogaji Temple – Gogamedi

Gogamedi Temple is the unique temple of the country dedicated to Gogaji located in Gogamedi (Hanumangarh) of Rajasthan. The temple is believed to be nearly 950 years old. This temple has a unique tradition of offering onions and pulses, no other temple will be found in the country where onions are accepted as donations and offerings. There is a heap of onions in the temple throughout the year. Gaushala and Bhandara are organized by selling donated onions.

Nath Panth has nine Siddhas Panth, the most prominent of them are Shri Gorakh Nath who was a skilled yogi. This place is called the place of worship of Shri Gorakh Nath where his yagyashala is still present today. It is also believed that Sri Gogaji met Sri Gorakh Nathji here and became his main disciple. Gorakh Nathji gave him spiritual education and instructions.

Gogaji’s Birth Details

Gogaji is considered to be the folk deity of Rajasthan. Whose birthplace was Dadareva village of Churu district. He was born in the womb of Bachhal, the wife of Jaber (Jawar Singh), a Rajput ruler of the Dadareva (Churu) Chauhan dynasty of Rajasthan. It is believed that Gogaji was born with the blessing of Guru Gorakhnath, who gave the Gugal fruit to Goga’s mother Bachhal in the form of prasad. Since Gugal’s fruit was the reason for their birth, they named him Goga. Where as the devotee respectfully called him ‘Gogaji’.

History of Gogamedi Temple

A thousand years ago there was a war between Gogaji and the invader Mahmud Ghaznavi. In the war, Gogaji had called in the army from the surrounding areas. The soldiers who came for the fight had brought pulses and onions with them. In this war, Gogaji attained Veergati. During his return after his death, soldiers offered onions and lentils at his samadhi (grave), a tradition that has continued ever since.

A 15-day fair is held every year in the Gogaji temple. Which starts from the second day of Rakshabandhan. The maximum crowd in this is on Chhath, Saptami and Ashtami of Krishna Paksha and on Chhath, Saptami and Ashtami of Shukla Paksha.

Gogaji is seated as a secular deity as People of all religions come here from far and wide to pay their respects.
