Kuruvapuram Shripada Shri Vallabha (Dattatreya) Temple

Today is Guru Dwadashi.
It is the day when Shripada Srivallabha left the physical abode and reached the divine abode. It falls on the Dwadashi day which comes prior to Dhanteras and Deepavali.

Kurupuram is a holy place associated with Shripad Shri Vallabha who is considered as first avatars (incarnations) of the deity Shri Dattatreya  in Kaliyuga. This village is located near Raichur on the banks of Krishna river in the border of Telangana & Karnataka states. This village is also known as, Kurugadda, Kurugaddi, Vallabhapuram.

 

Religious Importance

Shripad Sri Vallabha stayed here most of his life. The religious significance of Kurupuram is duly mentioned in the book Shri Guru Charitra and other holy books associated with Shri Dattatreya. Shripad Sri Vallabha did many leelas here. As per Gurucharitra, the people who visit Kurupuram, will become free from all the problems and will be blessed with healthy and prosperous life.

Kuruvapur is a famous place of Lord Dattatreya. The first incarnation of Lord Dattatreya in kaliyuga is Shripada Sri Vallabha. The birth place of Shripada Vallabha is Pithapuram which is situated in Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. He was taken birth in the family of Appalaraju Sharma and Sumathi. He has performed penance at about 35 years for Gnana, Vairagya siddhi at Kuravapur and closed his avathara on Ashweeja Bahula Dwadasi (Hastha Nakshatra) in Krishna river of Kuruvapura.
But till today he is in sukshma rupa there and giving indirect darshan to the devotees who are having full faith on him. This place is termed as Gurudweepa in Skanda purana.Skanda purana explained that 28000 yogis and siddhis of Himalayas had visited this place and had darshan of lord Dattatreya. This place was named as Kuruvalaya in the days of Nizam government Period. The place is completely surrounded by Krishna river and is called as Dweepa. Tembe swamy Maharaj (Sri Vasudevananda Saraswathy) performed  “Chaturmasya vratha”  here in the year of 1911.The disciples of Tembe swamy Sri Rangaavadhootha, Gulavani Maharaj had also performed penance here.

Information of Kuravapur

SHRIKSHETRA KURAVAPUR  is an island surrounded by holy waters of rivers Krishna This holy land was donated by a Rajak devotee. Since it is donated to the temple priest, it is called  AGRAHAR,  Temple is built as per Hemad Pant Style. Old Banyan Tree, Audumbar, Gayatri Suryodasana and Cave where his holyness Sripad Srivallabh has done Dhyana. Now the cave has been refurnished and Nirgun Paduka (Foot Print) are kept for Darshan. Nagarkhana has been built by SHRI TUKDOJI HOLKAR.  PARAMPUJYA VASUDEVANANDA SARASWATI MAHARAJ  came to this place in 1911 (Vaishakh Shukla 6.) Maharajah did his 21st Chaturmas during his stay. A scorpion bite him when he missed his daily stotra offering prayers to Shripad Shrivallabh is also one of the attractions. Mandir Utsav and religious rites performed here are a legacy of Parampujya Vasudevanand Sarawati Maharaj. Parampujya Shridhar Swami has also stayed here.
