Rishikesh: Many temples are established in Rishikesh, the yoga city of Uttarakhand. Every temple has its own specialty, its own importance and its own history. This temple is considered as Siddhapeeth. At the same time, on Shivratri, a procession of Lord Shiva is taken out with great enthusiasm and the marriage of Shiva and Parvati is organized. Someshwar Mahadev Temple is located in Ganga Nagar of Rishikesh. Mahant of the temple, Shri Rameshwar Giri tells that in Satyayuga, Rishi Som performed severe penance here, due to which Bholenath was pleased and gave him darshan. Also, when he did not ask for any boon, Lord Shiva named this place Someshwar. Since then this place is known as Someshwar Mahadev. At the same time, Bholenath revealed Shivlinga from the earth and declared this place as Siddhapeeth. That Shivalinga is still present here.

Lord Shri Ram had performed Jalabhishek in Tretayuga.
He tells that in Satyayuga, after Som Rishi, Sukhdev Rishi also performed severe penance here. Whereas in Treta Yuga, Lord Ram and Lakshman had performed Jalabhishek of this Shivalinga and if we talk about Dwapar Yuga, in Dwapar Yuga, five Pandavas along with Draupadi had performed Jalabhishek of this Shivalinga. Even now thousands of people come to this temple to offer water to Shivalinga. Rudrabhishek is performed on Shivling every Monday. Every day this Shivalinga is decorated very beautifully.
The procession of Lord Shiva is taken out on Shivratri.
By the way, Shivratri is celebrated everywhere in the world, in Rishikesh. On the occasion of Shivratri, a unique procession of Lord Shiva takes place in Someshwar Mahadev Temple, in which Naga Sadhus and everyone participates. Shiva Parvati marriage is organized at Triveni Ghat.
