Dewas Mata Mandir located in Dewas close to Indore in Madhya Pradesh.The temple is also known by many different names Maa Chamunda Mandir Dewas, Dewas ki Mata Ka Mandir, Dewas Wali Maa Ka Mandir, Tekri Mata Mandir, Mata Mandir Dewas, and Maa Chamunda Tekri. Please tell that this temple is one of the Shakti Peethas of India which is dedicated to Tulja Bhavani and Chamunda Devi. This temple is situated on a hill and is also very old.

The name Dewas is derived from the Devi Vaishini hill in the city, commonly known as Tekri.The hill has a temple of the deities Devi Tulja Bhavani, Chamunda Mata and Kalika Mata. The word Dewas is believed to be a sandhi of the words Dev (deity) and Vas (abode in Marathi), so Dewas means house of the god.

There are mainly two shrines of a goddess called Choti Mata (Chamunda Mata) and other Badi Mata (Tulja Bhavani Mata).

History

Dewas Mata Mandir is considered among one of the 51 Shaktipeeths. It is said that parts of the mother’s body had fallen on other Shaktipeeths of the country, but here the mother’s blood had fallen on the tekri, due to which mother Chamunda Devi appeared here. The Tulja Bhavani temple at Tekri was established by the Marathi royal family and they worshiped Mata as their Kuldevi. Both mothers are real sisters. It is said that Vikramaditya’s brother Bharthari did penance in this temple. It is said about the temple that this temple is from time immemorial. But there is no evidence of the antiquity of the temple.
