If you want to come face to face with Bundeli culture and folk arts, then definitely go to the Shravan fair organized at Khati Baba temple in Christian Tola. In this fair organized continuously since 1950, you will hear the tunes of Gotas and Dhaank. Snakes are worshiped here. The fair was formally inaugurated on Wednesday.
There were once about five fairs held on Nag Panchami in the city of the brave queen Rani Lakshmibai, among which the fairs of Gopal Ki Bagiya and Shankar Singh Ka Bagicha are prominent. Snake charmers came from far and wide, along with many species of snakes. But these fairs are no longer held. The Nag Panchami fair continues its existence even today in the Khati Baba temple of Christiantola. Fair program director Siyaram Sharan Chaturvedi and coordinator Bhole Kushwaha told that once upon a time Khatibaba area was a complete forest. Devotees used to come from different places to have darshan of Khati Baba and worship the deity on Nag Panchami, which continues even today. The only difference is that earlier there were limited shops, today there are more than 60 shops. On the day of Nagpanchami, devotees worship Bambi built behind the temple. Baijnath Kushwaha started the tradition of the fair in 1950.
