Aadi Kedar Temple

Share

A temple in Uttarakhand, where after seeing God one gets blessings like Kedarnath.

Chamoli.Uttarakhand is called Devbhoomi. Here Gods and Goddesses reside at every step. Every temple has its own different beliefs, religious significance, and method of worship. One of these temples is Adi Kedar (Adi Kedareshwar Temple). Although you must have heard the name of Adi Badri, one of the Panch Badri, but perhaps only a few people would know about Adi Kedar. There is another temple of Lord Shiva in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, which is known as Adi Kedar. Adi Kedar is situated below the temple of Shankaracharya on the right side of the stairs descending towards Taptakund near Singhdwar of Badrinath Dham. The partial form of Lord Shiva can be seen in Kedar.

According to the legend, Shiva had dominion over the entire Kedarkhand. Once Narayan (Vishnu) came to Badri Dham, he liked Badrinath Dham very much and he felt like staying here, but there is no vacant place in Badri area. So he made a plan.He took the form of a child and started crying in front of the door of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. At that time, Mother Parvati and Lord Shiva were preparing to go for bath in the hot pond located in Badrinath temple. Parvati, seeing that crying little child, gave him the shade of her love. Although Lord Shiva forbade her, the mother did not agree and took the child inside, made him sleep there and went for a bath with Lord Shiva. After their departure, Narayan closed the door from inside and when Mother and Lord Shiva returned after taking bath, the door did not open from inside, so they went somewhere else (Kedarnath Dham) and remained here in their partial form. Due to it being his native place, it came to be known as Adi Kedar. This area is also described in Kedarkhand, although this is just a legend, which has been going on for centuries.

Former religious leader of Badrinath, Bhuvan Uniyal tells that Adi Kedar has special significance in Badrinath Dham. When the doors of Badrinath Dham are closed for winter, before that Panch Puja is done for five days, in which the temple of Lord Ganesha is closed on the first day. On the second day the doors of Adikedar are closed.

Those devotees who are not able to visit Kedarnath Dham, if they visit Adi Kedar, then they get the result of darshan of Baba Kedar here.
