Chandwad Renuka Mata Temple
Renuka Devi temple is a holy place which is located and situated at Chandwad ib Nashik district of Maharastra.
Renuka Mata mandir is considered as “self jagrit devasthan”. Renuka mata is known as a ” Rajeshwari “and “Kulaswamini”.
Rishi Parashurama was asked by his father Jamadagni (known for his anger) to kill his mother Renuka. Parashurama, being an obedient son, separated her head from body. The head landed in Chandwad while the body fell near Mahur in Nanded district.
Jamadagni was pleased by Parashurama’s devotion and obedience towards him.He then offered a boon to Parushurama, who wisely asked for his mother and brothers to be brought back to life. Jamadagni was impressed by Parshuram’s pragmatism and brought Renuka and her four sons back to life. Jamadagni felt strong remorse for what he had done to his beloved and compassionate wife. He then vowed not to get angered ever again and gave up krodha forever.
The ancient Renuka temple was constructed by Ahilyabai Holkar between 1735 and 1795. She built up maingate, Tirth-Talav, Deepmal steps. Ahilyadevi was also a major worshiper of Renuka Devi. Ahilyadevi used to go by subway to see Renuka Devi.
Devotees from various cities throng to visit the temples especially during the festival of Navratri.
