Why should one serve parents and elders?
The one who does not serve his parents, who troubles his parents and makes them sad can never become great.
Such a person can never progress in the spiritual path. According to Srimad Bhagavatam, when Gokarna returned home after a long penance, he saw that his house was deserted. There is complete desolation.
When he entered inside, his house was completely empty. Somehow arrangements were made to stay for the night. He started hearing very scary sounds at night. As if suddenly a wild boar was running inside his room. Then the sounds of owl and cat crying started coming.
Gokarna understood what this was? He said in a harsh voice – Who are you? What is the matter?
Hearing the thunderous sound of Gokarna, suddenly the sound of crying started coming. Nothing was visible, only sounds were coming.
Then that voice said – Brother! I am hazy. I am your brother Dhundukari. I am in great pain. I am very upset. I feel hungry, I can’t eat anything. Even when I feel thirsty, I am not able to drink. Although my body is not there, I keep feeling as if I am burning.Due to the gusts of wind I am sometimes here and sometimes there. I can’t even stay at one place. My brother! I am in great pain. I have become a ghost.
Gokarna ji says – foggy! How can you be a ghost? I have gone to your pilgrimage, I have donated my body.
Dhundhakari – I troubled my father so much that he could not bear it, and because of me he went into the forests. After she left, I used to take money from my mother for liquor, meat etc. When mother refused, I used to hit her. Mother was so saddened by my atrocities and my bad behavior that she committed suicide by jumping into the well.
Brother How can one who has caused so much trouble to his parents be benefited by Pind Daan? Brother You think of some other solution.
How can fogging be beneficial? Gokarnaji asked the Sun God about it.
Advised. Surya Dev ji said – Gokarna! Only devotion to God, Srimad Bhagavatam Katha or the story of Shri Krishna can do good to the smoker, there is no other solution.
After that, Shri Gokarna ji gathered all the people of the village and organized Shrimad Bhagavatam Katha. Organized Kirtan in praise of Lord Krishna. A bamboo was buried there so that the smoke could remain in it. He should not be deprived of Harikatha because of the gust of wind.
In this way, by listening to the glory of Shri Krishna and listening to the story of Shrimad Bhagavatam, Dhundhakari got well-being.
Otherwise, he had committed so many sins in his life that it was impossible for him to free himself from them. Because the parents who gave birth to us, the parents who educated and raised us with so much suffering, the parents who gave up their happiness for our happiness,How will God tolerate it if someone does not serve those parents, or causes any trouble or troubles to those parents?
Therefore, one who does not serve his parents, who troubles his parents, or who causes pain to his parents, can never become great.
