Shiv Mandir/Masroor Rock Cut Temple Lahalpur, Himachal Pradesh
Masroor Rock Cut Temple is located at Lahalpur in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. The route is easy to find out if you’re going via a car and that is advisable as it is a detour from Lunj from the main road.
Masroor Rock cut temples were built in the 8th century and are made from Sandstone rock. They are a version of North Indian Nagara architecture style, dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu, Devi and Saura traditions of Hinduism, with its surviving iconography likely inspired by a monotheistic framework. They are a sight to behold and work of pure admiration. You can also visit the temple inside. Though it has some damage from the devastating 1905 Kangra earthquake but what has remained is still so exceptional !
It is not a wheelchair accessible sight as a lot of stairs are built to reach the sight. Photography is allowed and you can also feed the fish in the pond as it’s considered good luck but make sure to buy the necessary food items at Lunj as that would be your last stop as you might not find shops ahead.
It is a beautiful sight of history that you should definitely not miss if you’re visiting Kangra.
