Kukur Dev Temple is actually a monument (kukurdev mandir facts) Actually Kukur Dev Temple is a monument, which was built in the memory of a faithful dog, later it took the form of a temple and became associated with folk faith. The story behind this temple is related to a nomad and his pet dog.

What is the story of the construction of the temple? (kukurdev mandir story) According to folk beliefs, centuries ago a Banjara came here with his dog and family. Once there was a famine in the village, Banjare took a loan from the village moneylender, but he could not return the loan. In such a situation, he mortgaged his faithful dog to the moneylender and went away from there.

After some time, a theft took place at the moneylender’s house, but the dog came to know about the stolen goods and took the moneylender there. When the moneylender dug a pit at the place indicated by the dog, he found all his wealth. Pleased with this, he put a slip around the dog’s neck and sent it to its real owner.

As soon as the dog reached the nomad, it felt as if he had run away from the moneylender. So in anger he beat the dog to death, but when he saw the slip he regretted it. After that he buried the dog at the same place and built a monument on it, which later became a temple. It was later renovated by the Naga dynasty rulers.

There is a village named Banjare near the temple. It is said that Mali Dhori village starts after crossing the road in front of Kukurdev temple of Khapri village. This village was named after the gardener Dhoti Banjara. This was the original gardener of the faithful dog and after not being able to repay the loan to the moneylender, he started living in this village.
