Share

Shri Baba Aughadnath Shiv Temple is an ancient Siddhipeeth in Meerut metropolis. The small Shivalinga installed in this temple is the self-proclaimed form of Lord Shiva, the giver of fruits and the one who fulfills wishes. For this reason it was named Aughadnath Shiv Temple.

During the colonial period, the Indian Army was called Kali Paltan. Due to its location in Kali Paltan area, this temple is also famous by the name of Kali Paltan Temple. There is no definite time available for the establishment of this temple. According to popular belief, this temple existed as a famous place of worship before 1857.During the time of brave Marathas, many prominent Peshwas used to visit this temple before the Vijay Yatra and worship Lord Shankar with great devotion.

This place of worship has played a prominent role in India’s first freedom struggle (1857). Due to the peaceful environment suitable for security and privacy, the British had established an army training center here. Due to its proximity to the Indian battalions, many freedom fighters used to come and stay in this temple and hold secret consultations with the officers of the Indian battalions. Among these, Haathiwale Baba held a special place. It is said that he was Dhudhpant Nana Saheb.

Army soldiers were used to drinking water from the well located in the courtyard of the temple. The arrival of new cartridges for guns in 1856 also became the main reason for the first movement of independence. Before using these cartridges, they were opened through the mouth, in which cow fat was smeared, due to which the then priest of the temple refused to give water to the army soldiers. Therefore, even before the scheduled 31st May, the agitated army soldiers sounded the bugle of revolution against the British on 10th May 1857.

The Martyr Memorial established by the lotus feet of the then Major General Shri Jagjit Singh Arora, the conqueror of Bangladesh, on this historical well is a vivid symbol of the glorious past of the revolution, where even today, every year on 10th May, the freedom fighters of India gather and offer their floral tributes to the martyrs. Is. And hold conferences.

Old people know that till 1944, a small Shiva temple and a well (in the form of a pond) existed in the forest of trees adjacent to the training center. Gradually, with the idea of upliftment of the temple, Devdhidev Mahadev Pralayankar’s wish and Knowing the inspiration, the foundation stone of the new temple was laid at 5 pm in October 1968. Amidst the thunderous sound of Vedic mantras, Brahmalin Astrologer, Thadhishwar Anantashree, Vibhushit Jagat Guru Shankaracharya, performed the rituals of Krishnabodhashram ji and after four years in the Pragati Krama tradition, the Pran Pratishtha Mahotsav of the new deity idols took place on 13th February 72.
