Mukteshwar Mahadev Temple Ancient Chambal River, Nagda, Madhya Pradesh

Share

The ancient Mukteshwar Mahadev temple was built on the banks of Chambal about 5500 years ago, at the end of Dwapar Yuga and the beginning of Kaliyuga.

History

King Janmejay had performed a yajna near Juna Nagda on the banks of Chambal river. In this yagya, snake species was burnt. Due to which this city was named Nagda. Mukteshwar Mahadev Temple was established on the river bank during the Yagya. This yagya was performed because King Janmajeya’s father King Parikshit had died due to snake bite. In retaliation of which, King Janamjeya performed a yagya with the aim of eliminating the snake species. King Parikshit was the son of Abhimanyu, son of Arjan.

Now a new temple has been constructed in place of the old temple which is very beautiful.
