Kiradu Temple

This mysterious temple is located in Barmer district of Rajasthan. In 1161 BC this place was known as Kirat Kupa. It is said that this temple is built in Rajasthan, but a glimpse of Southern style is visible in its construction. Khajuraho-like craftsmanship can be seen in this temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, that is why people also call it Khajuraho of Rajasthan. This temple is surrounded by many mysteries. People come from far and wide to see this temple.

Kiradu Temple, 35 km from Barmer, is a beautiful chain of five temples. The beauty of these temples built in southern style is discussed all over India. But now most of its temples have turned into ruins. The condition of the temple of Lord Shiva and Vishnu is fine.

This temple is so scary that people do not even stay here till evening. People leave from here as soon as the sun sets. There is a very scary reason behind this. It is believed that whoever stays in this temple after sunset becomes stone forever. After this horrifying scene, no one wants to stay here after dusk.

It is believed that there is a curse of a saint behind this dreadful mystery. It is said that an accomplished sage had left his disciples in the trust of the king and the people. He had asked the king to take care of him. But both the king and the people became so busy in their work that they did not pay attention to the disciples. Here suddenly the health of a disciple deteriorated. When the disciples asked the villagers for help, no one helped them. When the sage came to know about this, he became very angry and cursed the village beyond that whoever entered this temple after sunset would be turned into stone. Now even the Rajasthan government has banned visiting this temple after dusk.

According to folk tales, during that time a potter’s wife had helped the sage’s disciples. The sage was pleased with that woman. He ordered him to leave the village by evening and told him not to look back even by mistake. When the woman was leaving, she accidentally looked back, due to which she also turned to stone.

The statue of that woman is still installed near the temple. Due to this curse of the sadhu, panic spread among the people of the village and now no one can muster the courage to go to this temple after evening.
Jain Temple, Barmer Fort and Sand Dunes can be seen near Barmer. Because of the mystery of Kiradu, people come to see this temple. However, it cannot be said whether Kiradu’s curse is true or imaginary. But due to being in a barren place, this place looks scary. Not many people are seen here in the evening or even during the day.
