Parner is a historical village and taluka seat of Ahmednagar district. This sacrificial place of sage Parashara. The name Parner is derived from the name of Rishi Parashar. Grandson of Maharishi Vasishtha and father of Mahabharata author Shri Ved Vyasa is Shri Parashar Rishi Parner city has twelve jyotirlingas of Lord Mahadev hence Parner city is also known as Pratikashi. Another feature of Parner is that it also has many ancient temples.
At a short distance from Parner bus station, in Nageshwar Galli, we can see Shri Nageshwar temple and ancient stone barav. The temple is ancient and due to painting and renovation, the temple has lost its original beauty. The temple is facing east and we can see the structure of the temple like Mukhmandap, Sabhamandap and Garbhagriha. There are framed sculptures of Mahishasurmardini at the entrance of the temple and three beautiful idols of Shri Ganesha in the hall. On a small square in front of the temple, we can see Nandi and Nandi snake sculptures.

On the left side of the temple we can see Puratan Barav. The Nageshwar temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples in the Pavan Parner Panchkroshi of Sage Parashara. This is the place of worship of Parnerkar. Adjacent to the temple we can also see the Peshwa era Shri Ram temple.
