Why Is Bhasma Offered To Lord Shiva?
1. When Mother Sati jumped into the yagna of her father Daksha and burned to death due to the insult of her husband Shiva, Shiva was very hurt by this incident. After destroying King Daksha, he took out the dead body of his wife Sati from the burning fire and began to wander the earth in anger, sorrow and restlessness. Wherever the body parts of the mother fell, the Shaktipeeth was built there. Due to this misery, the creation was in danger, due to which Lord Vishnu converted his body into ash with his Maya. However, when Shiva’s delirium and sorrow did not subside, he smeared the ashes on his body as a sign of his love. It is said that this is why Lord Shiva takes ash, but there are many other reasons for this.
2. The final form of any substance is bhasma. If you burn anyone, it will be the same as ash. If you burn the soil also, it will be in the form of ash. The ultimate form of all is Bhasma. Bhasma is also a sign that creation is mortal. Lord Shiva wants to tell everyone that this is the ultimate truth of this body.
3. One of the sannyasis of the Hindu religion, the Naga ascetic wears the Bhabhuta all over his body. Among the Nagas also the Digambara sadhus apply bhasmi or bhubhut on the body. It is their clothing and adornment. This protects them from many dangers. It is said that there are many miraculous benefits of bathing in Bhasma. In the Navanatha school, it is said that Ultanta Bibhuta is Palatanta Kaya. That is, it makes the body pure and radiant. The swelling has reduced. That is, Bhabhuta cleanses and purifies the mind by removing the impurity of the mind.
4. Naga Baba either cleanses the ashes of a dead person and applies it on the body or applies the ash of the havan performed by him or it is of Dhuni. Many ascetics and Naga sadhus apply ash all over the body. It is said that this ash not only protects their body from germs but also provides relief from cold and heat by covering all the pores. The heat of the body is not able to come out by covering the pores, it does not feel cold and the moisture of the body does not come out in the heat. It protects from heat. Mosquitoes, bedbugs, etc. also stay away from the body. The Naga sadhus lie naked, with their whole body covered with a beautiful garland.
5. Many times you must have heard that a Baba cured a patient by feeding bhubhoot or people got miraculously cured by eating bhubhoot of temples, ashrams etc. at fruit places. In fact, many types of bhasma have been mentioned in Ayurveda. There are many kinds of ashes like herbs or gold, silver, conch, diamond, muktashukti, godanti, mica etc. You will get benefit from eating this. The bhobut made from the material of yajna or havan has also been considered to be the destroyer of many diseases, but before eating such bhobut it is important to know whether it is of a trustworthy place or not.
Applying vibhuti on the forehead destroys the negative energy within you and activates the ajna chakra. It gives peace of mind and clears the mind. By applying in the throat pure chakra is awakened. If the sacrifice is done by the method of sruti, that is bhasma srauta, if the sacrifice is done by the method of smriti, that is smartha bhasma, and if the bhasma is prepared by burning the kanda, then it is called cosmic bhasma. The Bhasma of Viraja Havan is considered to be the best. Peepal, pakhad, rasala, bel patra, banana and cow dung are burnt in the havan kund. The ash of this incinerated material is sieved from the cloth and its ladoo is made in raw milk. It is heated in fire seven times and then quenched with raw milk. The incinerator prepared in this way is periodically applied. This is the attire of the Bhasmi Naga Sadhus. Aarti is also performed with similar Bhasma.
