Dharasuram Sri Airavatesvara Temple

Airavateshwarar Temple, Darasuram town, Kumbakonam. A UNESCO world heritage site, the all imposing Airavateshwarar temple located at Darasuram near Kumbakonam is sight to relish. Built by Raja Raja Chola II, the Shiva temple is a beautiful standing example of the architectural expertise of the Chola kings. Lord Shiva is present in the form of a huge massive Lingam. The sanctum looks like as if the structure is built on a chariot. Like all Shiva temples, there is a huge Nandi in the courtyard. The walls are covered with interesting frescoes.
