There was a girl named Vrinda in the mythological period. He was born in the demon clan. Vrinda was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu since childhood. Used to worship God with great love. When she grew up, she was married to the demon king Jalandhar in the demon clan, Jalandhar was born from the sea. Vrinda was a very virtuous woman, always served her husband.

Once there was a war between the gods and demons, when the Jalandhar started going to the war, Vrinda said – “Swami you are going on war, as long as you stay in the war, I will sit in worship and perform rituals for your victory and I will not leave my resolve until you come back”. Jalandhar went into war and sat in worship with Vrinda fast. Due to the influence of his fast, the gods could not win Jalandhar, when all the gods started losing, he went to Lord Vishnu.

When everyone prayed to God, God said – “Vrinda is my supreme devotee, I cannot deceive him”. On this, the deity said – “God is not any other solution, now you can help us”.

Then God kept the form of Jalandhar and reached the palace of Vrinda. As soon as Vrinda saw her husband, she immediately got up from the puja and touched her feet. As soon as his resolve was broken, the gods killed Jalandhar in war and cut off his head and separated him. His head fell in Vrinda’s palace when Vrinda saw that my husband’s head was chopped, then who are they standing in front of me?

He asked – “Who are you? Whose touch I did”, then God came in his form but he could not say anything, Vrinda understood the whole thing. He cursed God that you get stoned, God immediately became stone. All the gods began to cry out. Lakshmi ji started crying and started praying. Then Vrinda ji released the curse of God and she became sati with her husband’s head.

When a plant came out of his ash, Lord Vishnu ji said – “From today his name is Tulsi and one of my form will be in this stone which will be worshiped with Tulsi ji in the name of Shaligram and I will not accept enjoyment without Tulsi ji”.

Since then, everyone started worshiping Tulsi ji and since then Tulsi ji is married to Shaligram ji in Kartik month. It is celebrated as a Tulsi marriage on the day of Devuthani Ekadashi.
