Coins are worshipped at the Mata Mahalakshmi temple in Badi Brahmapuri in the city to get blessings of wealth on Dhanteras. These coins are given to devotees on the day of Deepotsav. It is believed that by doing this, wealth and prosperity prevails in the house and happiness and prosperity increases. There is an ancient temple of Mata Mahalakshmi, the goddess worshipped by Shrimali Brahmin community, in Badi Brahmapuri. Earlier 20-22 families used to live in this Brahmapuri. Since then, there has been a tradition of worshipping coins on the day of Dhanteras. It is believed that apart from this temple, coins are worshipped only in Hyderabad and Mata Vaishno Devi temple. After worshipping coins here, on the day of Deepotsav, devotees are offered prasad in the form of coins.
The Jhalarwa Mahalakshmi temple of Shrimali community is almost 300 years old and the Mahalakshmi temple located in Badi Brahmapuri is 150 years old. The Badi Brahmapuri Mahalakshmi temple was renovated 65 years ago by the Shrimali community.
