The black stone Chatubharuj statue of Lord Vishnu installed in this temple is not an ordinary statue. Its period belongs to the Pal dynasty (eighth century). This historical statue was first found by a local mechanic named Gorakh in 1914. Considering the statue as a stone slab, he used to sharpen his hoof on it.
This is the history of the temple
From there, preparations began to send him to London. It is said that the British intended to make the statue a part of the Royal Museum of London. When the local people came to know about this, considering it an attack on religion, the public started a movement under the leadership of Rai Bahadur Abhinandan Prasad to bring the statue to Gorakhpur.
The British had to bow down in front of public opposition and handed the statue back to Abhinandan Prasad.

According to historian Dr. Danpal Singh, Queen Shyam Sundar Kumari of Majhauli Estate had also taken the initiative for the statue. He appealed first to the Sessions Court and then to the High Court, but when that appeal was rejected, he approached the Privy Council, where the decision was in his favor. When the historical Vishnu statue returned to Gorakhpur, the queen asked her husband late. The temple was built in the memory of Raja Kaushal Kishore Prasad Malla and on May 8, 1922, this statue of Lord Vishnu was installed in the temple with full rituals.
