There are a series of Shiva temples in Agra. Shiva is present on all four corners of the city. Such a temple of Lord Shiva is located in Agra city where every wish is fulfilled. This temple is Mankameshwar Temple. There is this temple in the old city where Lord Shiva resides. Lord Shiva is adorned with special worship here during Sawan.

Apart from Mankameshwar Shiva, Shivalingas of Siddheshwar and Ranamukteshwar Mahadev are also present in the temple premises. The south facing idol of Bajrangbali, called Rudravatar, is also here. Bhairav, Yaksha and Kinnar are also present here.

This is the history of the temple

Manakameshwar temple located in Rawatpada of old Agra. It is believed that Shivalinga was established here by Lord Shiva himself in Dwapar Yuga. According to the popular story, after the birth of Shri Krishna in Mathura, Shiva, who had come from Kailash with the desire to see his child form, spent a night here and meditated.

He had vowed that if he could feed Kanha in his lap, he would establish a Shivalinga here. The next day when he reached Gokul, Mother Yashoda refused after seeing his ashen and matted form, fearing that Kanha would get scared after seeing him. Then Shiva sat there meditating under a banyan tree.When Shiva came to his senses, Kanhaiya started his leela and started pointing towards Shiva while crying. Then Yashoda Maa called Shiva and placed Kanha in her lap and only then Krishna became silent.

established Shivalinga

On his return, Shiva came here and established Shivalinga and said that just as my heart’s wish was fulfilled here, in the same way the wish of every devotee of mine who comes here with a true heart will be fulfilled. The specialty of this temple is that if someone If you don’t want to go inside, you can see Shivalinga from outside.

Anyway, only a person can go near this silver plated Shivalinga, who is wearing Indian costumes – dhoti, saree etc. There are many small temples behind the main sanctum within the temple complex. Here 11 unbroken pots lit with desi ghee keep burning continuously.When their wishes are fulfilled, devotees come here and light a lamp, the cost of which can range from Rs 1.25 to Rs 1.25 lakh.

Fair is held in the month of Sawan

In the month of Sawan, a huge crowd gathers to see and worship Lord Shiva. Although a crowd of Shiva devotees come here every day to see and worship Lord Shiva, the number of devotees increases significantly in the month of Sawan. On Mondays of Sawan, Pradosh and special dates and Shivratri, there is no place even to keep sesame seeds here.A huge crowd of devotees gather from early morning to perform Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva. Religious rituals like Rudrabhishek etc. are also performed here. Even during Kumbh, Ardh Kumbh and Magh Mela, lakhs of devotees get the benefit of darshan here.
