Situated atop a hill, the Ramkot Temple is the main place of worship in Ayodhya. An ancient citadel, it is situated on a raised platform and, according to popular belief, is the site of the fort of Lord Rama. Thousands of devotees visit this temple throughout the year but the best time is during Chaitra month (March-April) of Hindu calendar.When Ram Navami, the birth anniversary of Lord Rama, is celebrated with great enthusiasm. Various cultural programs are organized in the temple in the honor of Lord Rama, which give an interesting experience. The temple offers a sweeping panoramic view of the entire city including a bird’s eye view of its amazing temples and beautiful ghats. Legend has it that this fort was guarded by Lord Hanuman from a secret cave. The temple is open on all days of the week.
