Description
In Tamil, mercury is called Pada-rasam and the Shiva Lingam (Shivling) made using pada-rasam is called Rasalingam. Tamil Siddhas identify Mercury as Shiva’s metal (Shivadhatu). According to Parad granth (sacred book), acquiring the Parad Shivlingam 90% with 10% Gandhak (Sulphur) will bestow many blessings on the worshipper. Worship of this lingam is believed to cleanse a person from various crimes especially killing a snake, killing a brahmin, killing a baby and pilferages (small crimes). Also worshipping this lingam regularly, a person can even attain salvation or moksha. Traditional 8 Sanskars are perfomed in the making process of Gangtarang’s Parad Shivling which is necessary for purification of a parad shivling, which will elevate your puja benefits to a unique level.
According to Siddha alchemy, mercury is the representation of male (Shiva) form, and the chemical element sulfur associated in the solidification process is considered as the representation of female (Shakti or Gauri) form. Same composition is used in the process of GangTarang Parad Lingam.
