Adhi Vinayaka Mandir/Sree Adhi Vinayagar Temple Thilatharpanapuri,TamilNadu
According to the belief the murti of Ganesh ji in this mandir has a human face that was originally
his before it was replaced by an elephant’s head. He is worshipped as Nara Mukha Vinayak, meaning Vinayak with the head of a man.
This temple on the 48th day of kumbabhishekam of this temple. Famous for doing dharpanam to our ancesters on anyday through out the year as this temple is called “Nithya Ammavasayai day” temple. Temple history says Sri Ramar did dharpanam for his father Dsarathar and also for Jadayu here. Ganapati statue with human head can be seen only here. There is a gurukulam to train young gurukkals situated in front of the temple.
The first form of Ganapathy without elephant head. Adi vinayagar is representing his original form and this is considered unique This temple has also Siva and Parvathy and the lingam which was worshipped by Lord Ram after his return from Sri Lanka.
Only temple in which the Lord Vinayakar idol is in the form of human being. While everywhere, the God is having an elephant head with a human body, it is the only place where the God is fully human without having an elephant head.
