Once all the Gods and Goddesses, Indra, Kinnars and sages were praising Parvati, then Bhangirit, a member of Shiva, refused to praise Parvati. After Parvati explained several times that he was her son and his welfare could not be achieved by merely praising Shiva, But he did not listen to Parvati and with the help of yoga knowledge, he offered the entire meat to Parvati and reached Lord Shiva. Mother Parvati cursed him that because of his cruel mind, Bhringirit had insulted him, hence he would be sent to the human world. Due to the effect of the curse, Bhringirit immediately fell on the earth. There he started penance to get rid of the curse. Then Shiva told Bhrigirit that only Parvati will free you from the curse, you should worship her. Pleased with his penance, you told him to worship Shivlinga in Mahakaal forest, after getting its darshan your intellect will become intelligent. Bhringirit went to Mahakal forest and worshiped Shiva and Parvati appeared from Shivalinga with the body of half Shiva and half Parvati and freed him from the curse. Bhringirit asked for a boon that after seeing Shivalinga, he became wise. That Shivalinga will be known as Akrureshwar. It is believed that whoever worships Shivlinga after seeing it will go to heaven. All his sins will be destroyed.
