5/84 Mahadev:Shri Anadikalpeshwar Mahadev Temple

Rudra said to Parvati – This linga appeared in the beginning of that Kalpa, when there was nothing like Agni, Aditya, land, space, sky, air, water, heaven, planet, Indu, God, Asura, Gandharva, vampire, demon etc. When the time comes, the entire world gets absorbed in this Linga.

This grand temple is situated in the south-west corner of the Mahakal temple complex. Its sanctum sanctorum is about 100 square feet. An ancient red-brown colored Shivling about one and a half feet high is installed in its middle. The size of the Jaladhari is 6 feet, nearby there is a visible 6 feet high trident, on whose prongs there are figures of Ganesha and Parvati and the symbol ú is engraved in the middle. Shivalinga is covered by a 3 feet high and 5 hooded snake. Above the entrance there are statues of Shiva-Parvati riding on Nandi and other ancient sculptures. The ancient statue of Nandi is installed on a 6 feet high pedestal in front of the sanctum sanctorum. This temple is second in grandeur after Mahakal Temple.

The specialty of this eternal Kalpeshwar Shivling is that it has an eternal cause and it remains present even in the end. These gods are eternal and also the reason for the creation of the world.

Once there was a dispute about who was the best between Brahma and Keshav. Then the Akashvani said – “Whoever finds the beginning and end of the Linga named Kalpeshwar in the Mahakal forest, will be the Lord there!” But neither of them had any visible beginning or end. Mahadev said to Parvati – Those who can see this Shivalinga are blessed in the human world. He will get the virtue of Rajasuya Yagya.
