In ancient times there was a king Nimi. Due to his virtuous deeds, the messengers of Yamraj were taking him to heaven in a plane. Yamdoot was taking them through the southern route past hell. King Nimi saw crores of people there suffering the consequences of their sins, which was causing him pain. He asked the Yamdoot because of which karma I had to pass through hell, the messenger said that you did not give Dakshina on the day of Shraddha, because of that karma you are getting this result. After this the king asked due to which action I am attaining heaven. On this, Yamdoot said that you had worshiped Lord Mankeshwar on Chaturdashi of Krishna Paksha in Ashwin in Mahakal forest, as a result of which you have attained heaven. As soon as they started walking ahead, the sinners of hell said, O king, please wait for a while, the air touching your body is giving relief from the pain. King Nimi told the messenger that he would not go to heaven now and would stand here and give happiness to the sinners. On this Indra appeared there and requested the king to go to heaven. The king refused and asked how would these sinners be freed from the consequences of their actions? Then Indra said that if you donate the virtuous fruit of seeing your Lord to them, then everyone will be free. King Nimi donated his virtuous fruits to all the sinners, thereby freeing all the sinners from their sins. It is believed that just by seeing Anarkeshwar one gets freedom from hell. By worshiping Ashwin Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi, the sins of a person’s hundred births are destroyed and he enjoys the pleasures of heaven.
