Baba Baijnath Temple in Agar Malwa, Madhya Pradesh, is a revered Shiva temple with deep historical and spiritual significance. Situated on the banks of the Banganga River, the temple dates back to the 16th century and was later restored during British rule by Colonel Martin, making it unique among Hindu temples. Its grand architecture and annual ‘Shahi Sawari’ procession during Shravan attract thousands of devotees. Known for its serene atmosphere and religious importance, the temple remains a major pilgrimage site, drawing worshippers and history enthusiasts alike.

The best day celebreted here is last monday of Shravan Somvar, THE SHAHI SAVARI. The temple is situated on the banks of River Banganga, its construction started in 1528 and it was completed in 1536. The height of the temple peak is about 50 feet.

 

Story of the temple:

Establishment:
The temple was established in 1528 by Vaishyas of Mod caste in Betkheda village.

Restoration:
In 1883, the temple was renovated by Colonel Martin.
Colonel Martin’s

Story:
Colonel Martin, who was posted in Agar Malwa, was injured during the war in Afghanistan. His wife had vowed that if her husband returned safely, she would get the temple renovated.

Colonel Martin’s Experience:
Colonel Martin told that he was saved on the battlefield by a man who had long hair, was wearing tiger skin and had a trident in his hand.

The wish was fulfilled:
After the safe return of Colonel Martin, his wife got the temple renovated, and an inscription was also placed in the temple.

Miracles even today:
Even today devotees come to the temple and talk about their wishes being fulfilled.

Other beliefs:
The temple is also considered a Shaktipeeth, because the heart of Mata Sati had fallen here.

Fair in Sawan:
In the month of Sawan, lakhs of devotees come here and worship Baba Baijnath.
