Obara. The unknown abode of Lord Shiva, exile of Lord Rama, unknown abode of Pandavas and the caves of the district which are associated with prehistoric civilization hold many mysteries in themselves. One of these is the cave located in Sector 3 of Obra. The mysterious world of Mahadev resides in this cave situated on the highest hill here and known as Bhuteshwar Darbar. Presently devotees are going 30 to 35 feet inside this cave and worshiping. So far, more than 50 natural Shivalingas have been found. As people are increasing inside the cave, natural Shivalingas are still being found. There remains a mystery regarding this. People’s faith in this place is continuously increasing, considering it a center of Shiva worship or a connection with Naga people.
Legend also has it that this cave is directly connected to Chunar and the sages and other people who meditated here used it for transportation in ancient times. Before the establishment of the Obra Project in 1965, this site was completely deserted and hilly area. After the establishment of the project, when colonies and settlements settled here, people came to know about this mysterious world of Lord Shiva and started worshiping the cave considering it to be the court of Bhuteshwar Mahadev. In the month of Shravan, there is a gathering of devotees throughout the month. Crowds of devotees throng here on Nagpanchami, Basant Panchami and Shivratri. Along with organizing Shiva-Parvati marriage, auspicious programs also take place here. At present, the arrangements of this Dham are looked after only by Maharudra Seva Samiti. There are many other small temples here whose cleaning and beautification is done by the committee through public cooperation. Priest Parmanand Maharaj tells that in the month of Basant Panchami, Shivratri, Nagpanchami and Sawan, a large number of people come here to offer water to Lord Shiva. Devotees from tribal areas also come for Jalabhishek of Devadhidev Mahadev.
