Maharishi Gautam used to meditate on the banks of river Gomti.

During that time, Indra once tricked Gautam Rishi by disguising himself as Sati Ahilya, his wife. Angered by this, Rishi Gautam cursed Indra and ordered to install 101 Shivalingas on the banks of Gomti. Out of those 101 Shivalingas, the 71st Shivalinga is known as Ikottarnath Shiva Temple.

Even today Devraj Indra performs Jalabhishek

When the door is opened in the morning, flowers, water etc. are found offered to the Shivalinga. For this reason the recognition of this temple has increased further.

Why have so many taps been installed?

Due to this, today hundreds of taps are installed around the temple premises. In such a situation, this view becomes completely unique.
