Vishwanath temple of Chaudharyapur in Kannauj district of Uttar Pradesh remains the center of faith of the devotees. The temple of Baba Vishwanath built on the banks of river Ganga is telling the story of its antiquity and grandeur. Chaudhariyapur village is situated on the banks of Ganga, at a distance of about three kilometers from the city, where an ancient temple of Lord Vishwanath is built. The temple is at such a height that one has to climb many stairs to reach it. There are many ancient beliefs about the history of Baba Vishwanath Temple.

It is believed that Shivalinga was established here long before the reign of Emperor Harshvardhan. According to Shivkumar Singh Chandel, General Secretary of Baba Vishwanath Barahi Devi Seva Samiti, this temple was established around the eighth century. There is a legend that this Shivling came to Mother Ganga from the Himalayan Mountains while flowing in Mother Ganga.

How did the name Baba Vishwanath come about?

One of the twelve Jyotirlingas was called to Kannauj by giving a dream to the priests of Baba Vishwanath of Kashi and it was established before Baba’s Shivalinga. After this, the priests thought that why not install both the Vishwanath Jyotirlingas of Baba at one place, but this did not happen. The priests tried their best to take this Shivalinga to Kashi, but this Shivalinga did not move from its place. On this the priests built a temple here. For this reason this temple is called the second form of Kashi Vishwanath.
It is believed that by visiting here one gets the same results as one gets by visiting Kashi Vishwanath. From then till today, devotees from far and wide come here to have darshan of Baba. It is also believed that whatever wish is asked here, it is definitely fulfilled.
There is an influx of devotees in the month of Sawan
