Bhopal’s oldest Shiva temple – When Mahadev appeared in Bhopal
Shri Badwale Mahadev Temple, located in Kayasthapura area in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, is considered to be the oldest temple of Bhopal city. Worship and rituals are being performed here regularly for the last 200 years.
About 200 years ago, there used to be a garden at this place. In which trees of many species were planted. One day a Mahatma came to this garden and started resting under the shade of a banyan tree. While turning, his head hit a stone at the root of the tree. He removed the soil around the stone. When he looked, he saw Shivalinga.
Mahatma gave this information to the devotees. To gain credibility of his statement, deep excavations were carried out around Shivalinga to find out whether the Mahatma, to gain popularity, had secretly hidden a stone in the roots of the banyan tree, which was later found at the site of Shivalinga. Was told to appear. Due to the appearance of Shivalinga in the roots of the banyan tree, the temple was named Baba Bateshwar Temple.
Baba Bateshwar Mahadev Temple is also known as Badwale Mahadev Temple.
It is said that the tree planted here at that time still sings the story of its importance, because there is no banyan tree without matted hair. But this banyan tree does not have matted hair. On the other side, there is also a Peepal tree, which has big matted hair. Many miracles associated with this temple strengthen the faith of the devotees.
There is a well with banyan tree and peepal tree in the temple courtyard. It is believed that skin diseases can be cured by simply bathing in the water of this well. The most special thing about this well is that the water in it does not decrease even during summer. There is a constant flow of devotees in Shri Badwale Mahadev Temple throughout the month of Sawan. There is special adornment of Baba on every Monday of Sawan.
