Balihar Joda Shiv Mandir/Balihar Rajbari Bangladesh

Share

A great historical landmark in Rajshahi Division at Naogoan district. The zamindar of Bolihar was one of the most famous zamindars in Naogaon district of Rajshahi division. A zamindar in the Bolihar area of Naogaon was given a jagir under the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. In 1823 Zamindar Rajendranath built a Raj-Rajeshwari Devi temple here. He installed an idol of Goddess Rajeshwari made of brass in the temple. The statue was popular in the region, including Bolihar.

Bolihar Zamindar family was founded by Nrisingha Chakraborty. The zamindars of Bolihar, who were given land by Emperor Aurangzeb, built various buildings in the area, among which Bolihar Rajbari is one of them.

Many kings of Bolihar zamindar houses were highly educated. Among them, Krishnandranath Roy Bahadur Raja was a famous writer. His notable works are Krishnanendra Granthavali.

Bimelendu Roy was the king of Bolihar during the partition of the country. When the zamindari system was abolished during the partition of the country, Bimelendu Roy, the king of Bolihar, moved to India. After that the Bolihar Rajbari building was taken care of by other servants of the royal family. During and after the independence war of Bangladesh, various artifacts, furniture, windows and doors of the palace were looted.

Legend has it that Raja Mansingh, the commander of the then Mughal Emperor Akbar, arrived at Bolihar with an army to subdue the Bar Bhuiyans of Bengal. The army was tired from the long march. Mansingh halted at this Rajbari area for their rest and to get news of Bar Bhuiyans through the spies sent by Commander Mansingh. At that time dry season was going on in Varendra region. Thinking that the soldiers might become lazy if they sit idle for a long time, Commander Mansingh dug 330 lakes and ponds in this area with his army.

This place is now safe and secure. The site is currently preserved by the Bangladesh Archeology Department.
