Bankhandinath Bareilly
Bankhandi Nath Temple: The ancient Bankhandi Nath Temple is situated in Jogi Nawada. Which is included in the famous seven Nath temples of Bareilly. Many sages and saints stayed here and performed rigorous penance for God. The proof of which are the mausoleums built in the temple. Draupadi, the daughter of King Drupada of Panchal kingdom, had established Shivalinga in the temple.
History of the temple
The history of Vankhandi temple is thousands of years old. The abbot of the temple says that Mughal ruler Aurangzeb, like in other states, made every effort to demolish the temple here too. But, he could not demolish even a single brick of the temple. Since then this temple became famous by the name of Vanakhandi. Some experts believe that there used to be a forest around the temple. Hence it was named Vanakhandinath.
Features of the temple
The temple was built in Dwapar era. Where sages and saints used to attain siddhi by doing penance. After attaining Siddhi, he used to do public welfare work and then took Samadhi. It is believed that this Siddha temple protects the city from natural disasters.
By reciting Chalisa in the temple, all the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled. By serving the cow in the cowshed built here, the path to heaven opens for the devotee. Thousands of people come for Jalabhishek in the month of Sawan.
The greenery and Shiva-like atmosphere around the temple gives a feeling of peace.
